Here’s a local thrill that lasts a lot longer than eight seconds: The Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame, dedicated to professional cowboys and cowgirls who represent one of the state’s most legendary of heritages. The monument is located at the entry point to MetraPark Arena right in the heart of Billings. It’s where you’ll find an 18-foot bronze sculpture of Dan Mortensen, six-time World Champion bronc rider and a Billings local.

The surrounding granite and brick walls commemorate other champs, legends, queens and personnel who make rodeo what it is today. Every year, the organization also gives $39,000 in scholarships to support the sport. Over one quarter million dollars have been awarded to date. Today, 12 scholarships are awarded annually to six male and six female high school students. Miss Rodeo Montana also receives a $2,000 scholarship.

A Buckin’ Good Time!

There are many events year-round, and in January it’s the 13th annual Cowboy and Cowgirl Reunion. Held at The Holiday Inn, it’s open to the public, but reservations should be made early. Call 406-256-6515 to reserve your spot at one of the biggest galas in town. You can even buy a “brand block” to engrave your name (or anything you like) on a 12-inch by 12-inch block at the monument.

For just $300, a block can permanently be yours, and you can help support the mission of the organization. Alternatively, you can purchase a replica of the sculpture, the perfect keepsake for your trip to Billings.
