Kiona Vineyards & Winery got its start back in 1975 when John Williams and Jim Holmes planted the first vines in what would eventually become Washington’s Red Mountain appellation. They notably planted a portion of their new vineyard to Cabernet Sauvignon despite advice saying that the area was only useful for white wine production. Fast forward nearly 45 years and Red Mountain has developed into one of the world’s premier regions for Cabernet Sauvignon, and Kiona is still at the forefront of growing and producing the region’s very best wines. . We had the pleasure of visiting Kiona during our recent stop in Red Mountain and can confirm that their vineyards produce some absolutely world-class fruit. Pictured here are Cabernet Sauvignon clusters from the original 1975 plantings, which still produce wine of unbelievable structure, finesse, and purity. We’re now firm believers in the merits of this unique region and look forward to sharing more about Kiona and the epic terroir of Red Mountain soon. .
