May 4 – 6 marks Fiesta Grande in Yakima Valley, the biggest party in wine country. The biggest cultural event in the region celebrates Latinx heritage and culture with restaurants and bars collaborating for a massive, city-wide fiesta. Live entertainment, a carnival, dancing horses, and of course plenty of delicious Mexican cuisine are the highlights of the weekend.
Yakima Valley is a rich hub of Mexican culinary expertise, many with a unique Northwest twist. Handmade tamales and tortillas utilize ingredients that were harvested locally just for this event. Spend the weekend hopping from one cantina to the next and discover a new dish, style, or ingredient to fall in love with.
It’s Fiesta Time!
Some of the featured restaurants include Café Ole at 208 West 1st Street in Toppenish, El Conquistador Mexican Restaurant at 214 South 6th Street in Sunnyside, and El Mirador at 418 West Walnut right in Yakima. Wineries are also hosting tastings that pair vino with your favorite Mexican dishes throughout the valley.
The Miss Cinco de Mayo Pageant takes place in downtown Yakima on Saturday, coupled with soccer games, a car show, and plenty of family-friendly fun. Hosted by the Yakima Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, every year the party gets bigger. Historic downtown is flooded with attendees enjoying mariachi bands, folklórico dancers, and much more.
