Who knew Billings, MT had an award-winning burger restaurant? Before my adventure with #VisitBillings, I thought of Montana as a "home on the range" type of state with steak this and steak that. Although steaks are super popular in the area, Billings is killing the burger game. The Burger Dive has been featured in Travel Channel's Man V. Food and their burgers have taken home several Burger Champion awards from the World Food Championships. If you only have one burger while you’re in Billings, get it from the Burger Dive. This retro joint has a wide variety available, several of which have won awards at the World Food Championships. Try the Jim Beam and Coke burger, with a sweet and smoky bourbon barbecue sauce and perfectly paired gouda cheese. Roasted garlic and garlic mayo bring in a wonderful kick to elevate the dish. Pair it with beer-battered onion rings and a butterscotch shake.
Jake’s is a great place for a variety of meat dishes, and the burgers alone are pretty impressive. Order the Caribbean Jerk burger which brightens the grilled meat with the warm, tropical flavors of the islands and spicy pepper jack cheese. It’s particularly amazing with the shrimp salad!
If you go to Local, get the staff burger. You won’t know what’s going to be on it, you won’t ever get the same thing twice, but you will know that it’s going to be good. The staff burger is whatever concoction the kitchen puts together, based on mood and fresh ingredients, and often ttimes results in innovative combinations that you’ll desperately try to recreate at home.
The Fieldhouse is known for its high-end cuts of meat, and that same quality helps to elevate their burger. It’s a classic combination, but the local meat, housemade fry sauce, and a layer of cheddar makes it mouthwateringly delicious.
