Elko, a tiny village in northeastern Nevada at an altitude of 5,060 feet, offer visitors a great view of nearby Ruby Mountains. This desert region is home to many parks offering plenty of recreation and history with its two museums preserving the culture and history of the American West.

Outdoor Recreation

Angel Park offer visitors two tennis courts and a large playground. The “H” Park Fifth Street facility features a bleacher soccer field. Elko City Park on the other hand offer basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe pits, several ball parks and some barbecue pit picnic tables. Ruby View Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course with interesting teeing areas for golf enthusiasts.

Elko Swimming Pool

Perfect for relief from hot summer days in a desert area. The facility has an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool with 6 lap swimming lanes, a diving pit and a three-tube water slide. The pool is open to visitors from May till September. There are also six lanes for small children and a shallow wading pool.

Folklife Center

Learn about the country’s western heritage at the Western Folklife Center and Wiegand Gallery located in downtown Elko. Walk around the center, explore the gift shop full of books, DVDs, children’s games and posters. The facility is open Monday to Saturday.

Northeastern Nevada Museum

Northeastern Nevada Museum offer visitors an eclectic mix of local history ranging from a 2 million-year old mastodon to an antique bar used in 1916. There is a wealth of historical artifacts including clothing, furniture, machines and war memorabilia on display.
