Set your GPS to 7277-7337 State Secondary Hwy 416 and get ready to explore one of Billings’ most beautiful parks. Just a brief drive from your hotel in Billings, Riverfront Park offers a trail system for running, walking and urban hiking. It’s also popular with birders and photographers, especially in the spring months when the flowers are starting to blossom.
You’ll also find Lake Josephine, flanked by three park shelters available to rent. It’s a popular spot for picnics and celebrations. Lake Josephine epitomizes the natural beauty of Montana with its turquoise, clear waters perfect for swimming in the summer months, boating and fishing.
Take a Hike!
Lake Josephine is part of the Glacier National Park as well. It’s just southwest of Swiftcurrent Lake, with just a small stream separating the two. Just over one mile wide, the small lake is a landmark in Billings, and it’s in the backdrop of many wedding photos and featured at a number of special events.
The lake is easy to reach, but it’s listed as “backcountry” since you can’t drive to it. However, it’s just a short one-mile hike from Many Glacier Road, or you can take a boat from Swiftcurrent Lake into it.
