If you are spending more time in the hotel than expected due to coronavirus, here’s some great movies to keep you entertained!
Outbreak
Kevin Spacey, Dustin Hoffman, Donald Sutherland
When ebola-by-a-different-name is brought into the U.S. via an illegally imported monkey, doctors in the small town see a potential pandemic where the military leader and resident bad guy sees the opportunity to engage in biological warfare. This action movie is great entertainment, even though it’s a bit dated now.
The Stand
Molly Ringwald, Jamey Sheridan, Gary Sinise
This movie is based on a Stephen King book so don’t plan on sleeping afterwards – and leave the lights on. A superflu kills most of the world, leaving only a handful of humans for the final battle between heaven and hell. You’ll stay on the edge of your seat for the full film, and forget you’re waiting out the coronavirus pandemic.
The Happening
Zooey Deschanel, Mark Wahlberg
This M. Night Shyamalan film is a thrilling film about a virus that causes its victims to commit suicide. As with any of this director’s movies, expect creative twists and a riveting plot. This is a great movie to watch at night to raise your adrenaline – if you don’t have any need to wake up early the next morning!
Carriers
Piper Perabo, Chris Pine, Emily Van Camp
Survivors of a plague are forced to survive or die together while they isolate themselves from society for protection. It’s interesting – and relatable – while avoiding the zombie trope that has taken over pandemic films. While the plot may be somewhat predictable, it’s still quite enjoyable.
A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood
Tom Hanks
This movie doesn’t feature a pandemic, but it does star America’s favorite sweetheart, Tom Hanks, who has tested positive for coronavirus. Hanks plays Mr. Rogers (who, in real life, was actually a distant cousin of his) and how Mr. Rogers’ infamous kindness affected the lives of everyone he met and everyone who watched his public access show.
