The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering is one of the biggest annual events in Elko and you won’t want to miss it!
Since it began over 35 years ago, the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering brings together cowboys, ranchers, and other Western citizens to share poetry about the triumphs and tribulations of life in the rural areas. It has since expanded to include musicians, artisans, and storytellers in the six-day event. It’s an excellent activity to learn more about the Western lifestyle.
Featured poets include Doris Daley from Alberta, Canada; Maria Lisa Eastman from Hyattville, Wyoming; and Andy Hedges from Lubbock, Texas. Joining them are musicians, such as Mike Beck, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, and Ned LeDoux, son of country star Chris LeDoux.
Between the poets, storytellers, and musicians, it’s a fun week, but there’s even more to do when the workshops are taken into consideration. Learn how to make your very own cowboy hat, make western jewelry, or techniques in ranch management, or if you feel you too have a story to share, attend the writing workship.
